The Sony Alpha 1 is Sony's flagship full-frame mirrorless camera. Released in 2021, it combines 50.1 megapixels with 30 fps continuous shooting and 8K video recording — a combination that was previously impossible in a single body. It is the highest-resolution, highest-speed Sony mirrorless body available.
The Alpha 1 has two CFexpress Type A slots. There is no SD slot. Both slots are identical and interchangeable.
For 8K XAVC HS recording, Sony specifies a CFexpress Type A card with VPG200 rating (200 MB/s minimum sustained write). In practice, this means any current CFexpress Type A card from Sony, ProGrade Digital, or Lexar will clear the requirement — the 8K requirement is less demanding than you might expect because of Sony's efficient codec compression.
For 4K 120fps (S&Q Motion), Sony specifies a card that exceeds 700 MB/s write. The Sony Tough CEA-G series and Lexar Professional CFexpress Type A Gold series clear this bar. Slower Type A cards may not.
For 4K 30fps and 4K 60fps, most CFexpress Type A cards available today are sufficient.
The Alpha 1 has a standard 3.5mm TRS mic input on the left side of the body. It is compatible with wired XLR microphones via the appropriate adapter and with wireless microphone systems that output via 3.5mm.
DJI Mic 2 and DJI Mic Mini are both compatible via their included 3.5mm TRS cable. Rode Wireless GO II is compatible via the included 3.5mm TRS cable.
Body weight of the Alpha 1 body only is approximately 737g. With a typical mid-range prime (Sony 50mm f/1.2 GM: 778g), the combined weight reaches approximately 1,515g. This exceeds the DJI RS 3 Mini and DJI RS 4 Mini payload limit of 2kg with representative zoom lenses — check the specific lens weight against the gimbal's rated payload before pairing.
The DJI RS 4 (3kg payload) comfortably supports the Alpha 1 with most lenses.
