The Sony A7R V is Sony's high-resolution full-frame mirrorless camera, released in 2022. At 61 megapixels, it is the highest-resolution camera in Sony's mirrorless lineup outside the Alpha 1. It is primarily aimed at landscape, portrait, and commercial photographers who prioritize resolution over speed.
The A7R V has two CFexpress Type A slots. There is no SD slot.
For 4K 30fps XAVC HS, the A7R V requires a CFexpress Type A card rated above 200 MB/s write. Every current CFexpress Type A card on the market clears this requirement.
For 4K 60fps XAVC HS, the requirement increases. Sony recommends cards with VPG200 or higher, though in practice most Type A cards sustaining 700+ MB/s write are needed for the highest-bitrate 4K 60fps modes.
The A7R V does not support 8K recording (the sensor is high-resolution but not 8K-output capable via standard modes).
The A7R V has a standard 3.5mm TRS mic input. It is compatible with DJI Mic 2 (via included TRS cable), DJI Mic Mini (via included TRS cable), and Rode Wireless GO II (via 3.5mm TRS cable).
For studio interview or event use, an XLR adapter (such as Sony XLR-K3M or RØDE VXLR+) allows standard dynamic microphones to connect via the Multi Interface Shoe.
Body weight of the A7R V is approximately 723g. With representative lenses:
For photography work with standard prime lenses, the A7R V pairs well with any DJI RS gimbal. For heavy telephoto video work, the RS 4 is the appropriate choice.
